What To Expect When Eating Clean...
I've been slowly counting down the days of my "100 Days of Discipline" challenge which includes 100 days of consecutive clean eating. I've only got 6 days left, so I thought I'd let you know what to expect if you're interested in doing something similar. Here are 10 observations in no particular order... 1.  If you REALLY count calories, dive into this diet 100%, and make sure your macros are perfect, you'll be amazed by how annoying you are at dinner parties. 2.  If you're tall like me, you will... Emotional Support Tire Banned
Authorities asked a confused and angry local woman to leave the play area of Forrest Glen Park last Saturday just 45 minutes into her two-hour WOD of Tire-Flips, Pullups, and pretending the ground is lava."I don't understand.  I've been able to take my Emotional Support Tire into theme parks, hotels, and restaurants, but as soon as some reckless kid suffers a non-lethal injury, tolerance goes out the window," said Rachel Dillon (pictured)."People just don't realize how much panic I feel when I think about losing my booty-gainz," Rachel said.  "It's... 20 Tips for 20.2!
With double unders in Open Workout 20.2, we thought it would be fun to give you 20 tips to maximize performance. Unfortunately we ran out of ideas at tip #7 and filled the rest of the list with a bunch of stupid jokes.  Enjoy!  1. Double knot your shoes. This may seem kinda dumb, but I think we’ve all missed a few dubs in a row before realizing that an errant shoelace is catching our rope just enough to make you question your ability to do another double under...ever again...as long as... The 80/20 Rule & Fitness
Fact:  Wearing a Lab Coat Makes You Look Smart. I'll need all the help I can get if I'm going to be talking about math.  Hang with me here, no #2 pencils or scantrons will be required. I've been thinking about the 80/20 rule a lot lately.  If you're unfamiliar with the 80/20 rule (a.k.a The Pareto Principle), here is the basic premise... For many events, roughly 80% of the effects come from 20% of the causes. In terms of diet and exercise, The 80/20 rule would suggest that you... Read more...
Why Compete In The Open?
News alert!  We don't expect anyone at our local box to qualify for the CrossFit Games. So why should we all do it anyway? Well, lots of reasons, but we'll start with our top 3... 1.  You'll give your best performance. You should do the Open for the same reason marathon runners compete in races to set world records. You absolutely cannot test your peak performance in a vacuum. While your Open workouts might look similar to any other WOD at the gym,  being in competition with the rest... Read more...
How to Row Faster...
Most of us have very little (or zero) rowing experience, so you're not alone if it isn't a strength for you. I'm tall, so when our gym unboxed it's first set of rowers back in the day, I assumed I would be pretty competitive with this new movement. I mean, what's to know?  Sit on the seat, and pull on the handle, right?  Well, wrong. It turns out there are lots of things that go into great rowing, but one tip made all the difference for me, so I thought... Read more...

Inconvenient vs. Actually Inconvenient
So, today I started thinking about how inconvenient it would be to start eating a clean diet. Then I realized how ridiculous I was being, and made this list of things that are actually inconvenient...   Read more...
What Fitness Can Learn From Farming
A week ago I went on a 14 hour road trip that took me through Missouri. I remembered that my ancestors were from Missouri, and since I had 14 hours on my hands, I started researching my family tree on my phone as we barreled down I-70. (when I wasn't driving of course) The longer I looked, the more I noticed a pattern as I combed through census records, and other public documents associated with my forefathers.  See if you can pick up on it... Grandfather: Farmer Great Grandfather: ... Read more...
