Taking Space to Learn...
We have a new(ish) employee at Double Under Wonder.  Her name is Lydia, and hiring her has been one of the best decisions we've made since we launched the company.  She builds jump ropes, nails the customer service aspects of her job, and heavily influences many of the creative things we do. Today I was adding to her list of responsibilities, and when something didn't click immediately, she recognized her frustration, and said something that was so wise... "Sometimes I just don't give myself space to learn." - Lydia Gosh, how true... Read more...
Our New Office...
Double Under Wonder is expanding! We're moving part of our operations a few blocks down from our fulfilment center, and remodeling some space in an office that was built in 1904. I love history, so the idea of working in a space that is over 100 years old is really fun for me. As I was repainting my office, I noticed the doorknob pictured above.  Apparently, sometime in the last 103 years, someone did a really terrible job cutting-in around it. At first I was annoyed, and had plans to take the... Read more...
5 Ways CrossFit Could Look Cooler...
Sure, we've all claimed to "destroy" workouts, or "crush" our PRs, but what if we could actually leave our barbell in a pile of wreckage at the end of CrossFit workouts and walk off like a boss?  Read more...

The Type of Death CrossFit Offers :)
I sit here writing this with a sinus headache, and a cough.  I've been trying to nurse myself back to health for about a week, and I'm getting there, but I'm still just not 100%. Here's the good news.   This whole experience is making me appreciate my normally healthy body so much more. Two days into my illness, I was feverish, achy, and absolutely miserable.  I groaned the silent prayer, "Dear Lord, don't ever let me get sick and die!" I can't imagine being uncomfortable and sick for months, or... Read more...
Letters From The Box
We spend a lot of time griping about the equipment at the gym. If it could talk, I'll bet it would gripe about us too. Here are some examples... Gymnastic Rings Hey, seriously, enough with the entitlement!  I wish I had a nickel for every time someone screamed "AWWWE, COME ON!" at me. I cannot make you stronger, or lighter. I cannot impart muscle-up knowledge. I am an inanimate object. I am performing my job flawlessly according to the laws of physics, and your blame shifting is both misguided and... Read more...
5 (Mostly Fake) Gift Ideas For Your Gym Bestie :)
Christmas time is upon us, so we thought we'd put together a list of must-haves if you're searching for gift ideas for your gym friends. 1.  Vomit Bags If your friend is one to push the WOD a little too hard, a little too often, why not just start planning ahead? They'll no longer have to worry about staggering out the garage door when they feel that post-workout nausea coming on. They'll have your handy, thoughtful gift waiting dutifully next to their barbell! 2.  Toilet Bars Want your friend to... Read more...
A Joke, a Quote, and a Question
What if we made them feel hope by believing in them?  What if we made them feel like we couldn't wait to see them again? What if we made them feel strong, capable, and confident? Read more...
Point/Counter Point - With Me, Myself and I
Do you ever argue with yourself about fitness?  I do. Here are some of the conversations that happen inside my head before and during workouts on a variety of subjects... Intensity Me:  Heck Yes!!!  Let's Make this workout as INTENSE as possible!  Pain is just weakness leaving the body.  Second place is the first loser!  WIN!...WIN...WIN!  Don't stop 'til you puke...I mean 'til you're done.  A little Rhabdo never (OK rarely) killed anyone!  PUSH IT!!! Myself:  Dude, chill. Are you ever going to make it to The Games?  No?  Then... Read more...

It's Your Turn
Seth Godin is one of my favorite authors.  If you don't know who he is, just type "Seth" into Google, and he'll be the first result. His newest book What To Do When It's Your Turn, And It's Always Your Turn already has me thinking through things...and I haven't even read it yet. Mostly, I was just struck by part of the title.  It's "your turn."  Crazy, right?  We don't get another one. My Grandfather died last week.  His turn was 95 years long, but it still ended. Nothing will... Read more...
Your Trainer Isn't Judging You
A funny thing happens when you become a trainer at your box.  You go from being someone's friend, to being the person who occasionally gets avoided like the plague at the grocery store. Read more...
