Doing CrossFit At Home
Can you do CrossFit at home?  Yes. Should you do it like I did?  No. I started doing CrossFit at the end of 2008.  Since my town didn't have a CrossFit gym at the time, I was tasked with doing CrossFit at home. Ten years later, with a whole lot of hindsight, here are some observations about my experience. 1.  I had NO IDEA what I was doing. When I first started doing CrossFit at home, I had a 2-part recipe for disaster. I jump into things like I'm killing... Read more...
Jump Ropes For Sale!
However, people are still completely blown away when I tell them what I do for a living.  I can see the pity in their eyes. You can feel them thinking, "Oh you poor little thing.  You couldn't possibly make a living selling jump ropes..." Read more...
10 (Horrible) Double Under Tips
There are lots of horrible double under tips out there.  Here are 10 of the worst.   1.  Be properly "fueled."   Jumping rope burns TONS of calories, which means you need to make sure you're properly “fueled” if you’re going to get through a long jump rope workout.   If you’re ready to take your skills to the next level, we have 2 words for you:  “supersize it.”   Just drive through your favorite McRestaurant on your way to the gym, and throw down a meal somewhere in... Will CrossFit Make You Bulky?
Will CrossFit Make You Bulky? This question is almost as old as CrossFit itself. I could go on and on about whether CrossFit will, or won't make you bulky, but if I did, it probably wouldn't solve anything. Instead of asking whether CrossFit will make you bulky, I'd rather look at some similar questions women have likely asked about their bodies in other times, locations, and cultures. Some of these questions might seem like a stretch, but hang with me... "Will my little girl's feet look big and ugly... Read more...
Hanging On In CrossFit (And Life)...
I love a great comeback story.  I love to hear about people who were destitute who became successful, companies that were doomed but found a way to turn things around, and miraculous pieces of luck that change seemingly hopeless situations. The book I'm reading right now is called The Hard Thing About Hard Things.  It's by Ben Horowitz who went from having 6 weeks of available funds to operate his failing software company, to selling it for $1.6 BILLION. Another comeback story that comes to mind is the FedEx founder... Read more...
10 Minute HIIT Workout - Jump Rope, Thrusters, Waiter Walks
Here's the workout demo for this week!  Read below for all the details.  This one is a doozy!  It was CRAZY warm today, so we thought we'd take a field trip, and get a quick 10-Minute-High Intensity Workout in this afternoon! Tiffany and Tanessa have been teaching some fitness classes on the grounds of the beautiful Holy Cross Abbey here in Canon City, Co. and it made the perfect backdrop for this short, but sharp workout. Here's another great HIIT workout plan that can be done at home with minimal... Read more...
Why Resolutions Are So Hard to Keep
Wow! January is almost over. If you've made New Year's fitness goals, you're likely in one of two camps. The "CRUSHING IT" camp, or the..."DANG IT, I FAILED" camp. As I look over my New Year’s fitness goals, I see some that are going pretty great, some that have been bent a little, and some I completely failed at. I'm sure I'm not alone in the failure category, so I started thinking... Hmmm...Why is it so hard to keep a resolution?  I mean, we obviously WANT to change a behavior. ... Read more...
This Isn't CrossFit...
So, today I sat down with a bit of writer's block.  To get the ball rolling, I typed the word "CrossFit" into a stock photography website as a way to induce creativity. This picture was one of the top search results... I mean...What in tarnation? Here are the first 5 things we see wrong with this wildly inaccurate picture... 1.  Let's get the obvious out of the way.  You-do-you and all, but at my CrossFit box the guys wear 99% less spandex.  Showing up in your boxer briefs won't adversely... 3 Things I Hate About My Gym
I don't like happy songs in workouts for the same reason they don't have barbershop quartets sing at MMA fights. Read more...

Whole30 Recap
I'm on my last day of the 30-day cleanse known as the Whole30. Embarking on the Whole30® diet meal plan was poorly timed, poorly thought out, and I can't believe I'm actually going to finish this thing. Here are the things that were harder than expected, things that were easier than expected, and things that REALLY helped me make it through. Harder Than Expected Early in December, I accidentally went a full day (plus a breakfast) eating Whole30® diet meal plan-approved foods. I thought to myself, "Hmmm. If I start... Read more...
